All middle and high school homeschooling students in Forsyth and surrounding counties are welcome to join the FHE 2012 Cross Country team. The Cross Country event is the same for boys and girls: a 5K (3.1 mile) off-road race. If you’re not quite able to run a full 5K now, you will work toward that goal. By the time we start competing, many of our runners’ times for a 5K race range between 18-25 minutes.

The informational meeting will be WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 1, 7am, at Tanglewood Park in Clemmons. We will meet at our regular place: turn into Tanglewood’s gravel parking lot closest to the bridge on Rt. 158. A cross country banner will show you where to turn. Kids should be ready to run that day and parents will get forms and information.

The season will end in mid-October. We will have 6 practices a week, and we ask for a commitment of at least 3 practices/meets with the team per week unless you clear your absence with the coach. We also require our runners to run on their own 3 more times per week. We will run 12-14 meets this year, 4 on Saturdays and the rest on weekdays around 4-6pm.

This FHE sport will cost $70 per runner. This includes all invitational and other fees, the use of a team uniform, and FHE limited membership. There are no fundraisers. Parents will be asked to assist at our home meet, but there really isn’t much other parental obligation except bringing your athlete to practice faithfully.

Athletes will need to bring good running shoes, modest clothes to run in, a towel or pad to do strength training on, water, and a watch.

Our practices will be at the following locations and times except on meet days:
Mondays: 7am Tanglewood
Tuesdays: 7am Tanglewood
Wednesdays: 7am Tanglewood
Thursdays: 6:30pm Tanglewood
Fridays 6:30pm location TBA
Saturdays 9am location TBA (usually Hanes Park, Reynolda Gardens, or Beeson Park)
